FLASHBACKS: ORIGINAL TYPEFACE + accompaniment
OVERVIEW Create both an original typeface from scratch and a corresponding promotional piece.
BACKGROUND + CONCEPT I have always been very interested in typography and fonts. I took inspiration from Denise Bentulan, my childhood, and street art. Bentulan always has this harsh juxtaposition in her work, harmonizing simplicity and line work with a hand drawn, organic effect. I made refrigerator magnets with my created font to represent my childhood. Our refrigerator was a sort of gathering place for my family. Good grades were proudly hung, family photos of old adventures, takeout menus, shopping lists, and post-it notes were all tacked to side. I was always awful at spelling and I would practice with the magnetic letters.
