Into the Wild: Bookcover redesign
BACKGROUND + OVERVIEW Into the Wild by Jon Krakaur, has been one of my favorite books since I was twelve. If you have ever read the book, Krakau did not write it in chronological order. He writes the book as he gains information about Chris Mccandless, the main character. Keeping the events in order and remembering everywhere that Mccandless travels becomes challenging as you read the book. My first copy had a small map in the front of the book, so the viewer could follow along. I used it religiously. I would always lend it out to friends, wanting to share the story and get people as addicted as I was. I never seemed to get the copy I lent out back, so I would have to go buy a new one every year or so. The copies of the book that did not have the map made it harder to follow along. I thought incorporating a timeline, illustrations, and a map would help aide the reader to have a pleasant reading experience and follow the plot easier.
Into the Wild is a top selling book and has been published with many given covers. I was inspired to create my own version of the cover, one that is not only visually appealing, but also has a functional purpose. I incorporated my illustrations, with the map and timeline, in addition to the cover to make it a "special edition".
